About the Role (Amazon Logistics): This is an 'entry-level' leadership and support opportunity within one of Amazon's fast-paced Delivery Stations, located in Avenel, NJ (EWR). As a Logistics Shift Assistant (also known as a Process Assistant or PA), you are not a driver; you are a critical part of the on-site leadership team that supports the drivers and manages the flow of packages. You will be a direct Amazon employee, helping to coordinate the 'last-mile' operations. This role involves problem-solving, team coordination, and ensuring that our Delivery Service Partner (DSP) drivers can get on the road safely and efficiently. 'No experience' in logistics is required, but leadership potential and a process-driven mindset are key. We are hiring for 'night shift' and 'weekend shift' schedules, which are essential for our 'load-out' operations (when drivers load their vans). Your New Career – The Role: As a Logistics Shift Assistant, you will be a leader in the 'Sort' and 'Load-Out' processes at the Delivery Station. You will help manage the flow of packages from when they arrive at the station to when they are loaded onto the DSP vans. You will be responsible for a team of Amazon associates, helping to assign tasks, track progress, and troubleshoot problems. This is a 'hands-on' leadership role where you will be on your feet, working in the warehouse, and communicating with both Amazon associates and DSP partners. Your primary goal is to ensure a safe, efficient, and on-time load-out for all drivers. The Training – Your Foundation for Success: Your career begins with a paid, multi-week training program that covers both operational processes and leadership skills: * **Delivery Station Operations:** You will learn the entire workflow of the station: 'Sort' (where packages are sorted by route) and 'Load-Out' (where drivers load their vans). You will learn the technology and software used to track packages and manage routes. * **Problem-Solving:** You'll be trained to be a 'problem-solver,' handling common issues like missing packages, routing errors, or system glitches. * **Leadership & Associate Support:** You will learn how to lead a small team, conduct shift briefings, assign tasks, and support your associates to meet their goals. * **Safety & Compliance:** You will be trained as a safety leader, responsible for enforcing all safety protocols within the station. A Day in the Life – What to Expect: Your 'workday' is all about process and people, often on a 'night shift' or 'weekend shift'. * **Start of Shift:** You'll arrive for your shift (e.g., a 'night shift' starting at 1:00 AM for the morning load-out). You'll huddle with the Shift Manager, get your assignment for the day (e.g., 'Lead for Sort Zone A'), and review the volume and staffing plan. * **Managing the 'Sort':** You will lead a small team of associates who are scanning and sorting packages onto rolling carts for each delivery route. You will ensure they have the supplies they need, track their progress against a target rate, and help solve any problems (e.g., a package won't scan, a cart is full). * **Preparing for 'Load-Out':** You will ensure all routes are staged and ready *before* the DSP drivers arrive. You'll coordinate with other Shift Assistants to make sure the operation is running smoothly. * **'Load-Out' (Driver Support):** This is the busiest time of the shift. DSP drivers will arrive to pick up their routes. You will be on the floor, directing drivers, answering questions, and helping resolve any last-minute issues (e.g., a driver is missing a package). You are the go-to person for all driver-related problems during this critical window. * **Wrap-Up:** After all drivers have left the station, you will work with your team to clean up the area, process any remaining packages, and prepare a report for the next shift. The Lifestyle – Schedule & Environment: This is a warehouse environment. It is fast-paced, and you will be on your feet for your entire 8-10 hour shift. This is not a desk job. Schedules are typically full-time, four 10-hour shifts or five 8-hour shifts. As our operations run 24/7, 'night shift' (overnight) and 'weekend shift' availability is essential for this 'entry-level' leadership role. Why Amazon Logistics? This is a direct-hire Amazon role and a launching pad for a career in logistics management. You will gain 'entry-level' leadership experience at a world-class company. Amazon offers exceptional 'Day 1' benefits, including comprehensive health insurance, paid time off, and tuition assistance (Career Choice program). This role has a clear career path to Shift Manager and Operations Manager.
